Dr. Joe Cooper is an Orthopaedic Surgeon who specializes in sports medicine and orthopaedic treatments of the shoulder, elbow, hip, and knee. He trained under leading experts in sports medicine and is committed to helping patients of all ages and skill levels achieve optimal performance and a pain-free lifestyle.
Dr. Cooper attended undergrad at Washington University in St. Louis, where he pitched for the Bears baseball team while earning a B.S. in biology and neuroscience. He graduated with honors from the medical school at the University of Illinois College of Medicine, where he was also a member of the Alpha Omega Alpha honor society. He completed his residency at the University of Southern California, where he was selected by faculty as both an American Orthopaedic Association (AOA) resident leader and an emerging leader in the field of orthopaedics.
Dr. Cooper went on to pursue specialized training at the world-renowned Steadman Clinic and Steadman Philippon Research Institute in Vail, Colorado. There, he received training from a team of leaders in sports medicine, including Doctors Tom Hackett, Peter Millett, Marc Philippon, and Matt Provencher. During his fellowship, Dr. Cooper learned advanced arthroscopic and reconstructive surgical techniques for the treatment of complex disorders of the knee, hip, shoulder, and elbow. He also learned techniques for treating all sports-related injuries. Dr. Cooper has served as the point-of-care for professional athletes for an array of leagues (NFL, MLB, NHL, NBA, ATP/WTA, and PGA tours). He currently serves as a physician for the US Ski and Snowboard teams and continues to treat collegiate, high school, and recreational athletes.
